Abstract

We need to enhance the trust of impact assessment in an era of misinformation and disinformation, and AI. Political issues and a lack of transparency overshadow scientific facts, so impact assessment faces serious challenges. Korean Society of EIA (KSEIA) has contributed to enhance communication with the public, policymakers, and stakeholders through journals, conferences and forums over thirty years. KSEIA has a social responsibility to effectively communicatec complex scientific data to diverse audiences. Korean EIA has improved over the past five decades by instituting system, developing methodologies, and introducing new assessment tools. Hot debated EIA projects such as Cheonseongsan Tunnel and Seoraksan Cable Car gave us lessons of misinformation and disinformation in impact assessment. KSEIA for sustainable future is to extend fact-based scientific methods and to develop public communication. The future of impact assessment is the future of KSEIA.
