This session discusses the World Bank Group’s accountability mechanisms compliance functions to ensure transparent communication with relevant stakeholders during compliance reviews.


Abstract

This session will discuss the World Bank Group’s (WBG) accountability mechanisms’ compliance functions’ role in ensuring transparent and continuous communication with relevant stakeholders during a compliance review process regarding the WBG’s projects. Drawing on case data and experiences, the session will present challenges in translating technical terms in accessible language, ensuring proper channels of communication, updating complainants and gathering information, sometimes within an environment of threats and reprisals, while being transparent about accountability mechanisms limitations in this regard.

Compliance specialist with the World Bank with over 15 years of experience in E&S compliance, a PhD on stakeholders engagement and a published author on communities engagement in ESIAs.
