Abstract

Social assessments often culminate in detailed reports, yet the true measure of success lies not in the documentation but in the change it inspires. This paper explores how social assessment outcomes can be effectively translated into action within one of the world’s newst tourism destinations—where operations, workers, and surrounding communities all play a vital role in driving impact. The study investigates what happens after the assessment is completed: How are findings integrated into destination management and operational decision-making? What mechanisms ensure that recommendations generate meaningful social value? And how can tourism operators, workers, and new communities become active participants in sustaining that impact over time? Drawing on post-assessment processes, stakeholder engagement, and outcome tracking, this paper identifies the key enablers that transform assessment insights into real-world results. These include participatory follow-up strategies, capacity-building among operatiors, transparent communication of progress, and embedding social assessment feedback into long-term destination planning. Ultimately, the value of a social assessment depends on its afterlife—the extent to which it informs ongoing practices, strengthens community relations, and fosters social innovation within the tourism ecosystem. By closing the gap between assessment and implementation, this work demonstrates how social assessments can move beyond compliance to become powerful tools for inclusive and sustainable destination impact.
