Session: 686 - Climate Change Impact Assessment: Countering Misinformation with Science
Status: pending
Scientific evidence and transparent communication are vital to counter misinformation in conservation. Empowering communities and policymakers with facts strengthens biodiversity protection.
This article addresses the theme of “Countering Misinformation” by examining the role of biofuels in supporting the low-carbon energy transition while also delivering nature-positive outcomes. Drawing on insights from the forthcoming scoping paper, it highlights how sustainably managed biofuels can help clarify and correct prevalent misconceptions—particularly those related to land use competition, carbon emissions, and the risk of invasive species.
The article will showcase science-based tools, monitoring frameworks, and transparent reporting practices that demonstrate responsible implementation and good industry standards. Although the primary focus is on biofuels, brief reference will be made to other renewable energy sources to situate biofuels within the broader clean-energy landscape.
By grounding the discussion in evidence and practical examples, the piece aims to promote a more informed, balanced, and constructive dialogue on sustainable energy pathways.
