Session: 542 - Are We Living in the Post-Consultation Era?

Status: pending

Summary Statement

A practical exploration of effective approaches to comms and engagement in the context of UK subsea cable development.

Abstract

In this session, Ed Walker will explore effective communication and engagement approaches in the context of UK subsea development. With a focus on the substantial ongoing growth of subsea cables and interconnectors in the region, Ed will argue that we are not living in a post-consultation era. Rather, Ed will argue that with the right approach, all stakeholders can meaningfully and positively engage with subsea cable development in an industry where so much activity occurs beyond the shore, away from public view. The session will be anchored by Ed’s real-world experience supporting several of the UK’s leading subsea cable developments over the last 10 years – the session will be ‘practice’, with a little bit of ‘theory’! Ed will wrap up the session by considering the future growth in the industry, questioning how approaches may need to evolve to ensure they remain effective.
