Abstract

The decision by the US Government to dramatically change their support of humanitarian needs triggered an expansion of long term efforts to reform the UN-led humanitarian architecture. The change process, labeled as the Humanitarian Reset, focuses largely on reducing the scope of UN-led coordination of humanitarian assistance to be in line with expected funding. The Rest raises questions about the scope of humanitarian engagement on environmental issues, given reduced UN coordination and overall reduced funding. The presentation will consider the initial and long term impacts of the Reset and chart out ways in which environmental considerations can continue to be part of, and improve, humanitarian response.
