Engaging on risks associated with tailings storage facilities to support emergency planning and communication protocols


Abstract

This presentation will review experiences and lessons learned on emergency planning and communication protocols as it relates to tailings storage facilities. Direct experience with the Mount Polley Tailings Dam failure will be shared and as the new Global Industry Standard for Tailings Management is being implemented, the panelist will share perspectives on engagement opportunities related to collaborative planning, especially with Indigenous communities.
