Abstract

Recognizing the importance of investments in the infrastructure sector for Peru's inclusive and sustainable development, this country needs to advance infrastructure planning that guarantees such development. In this context, The Nature Conservancy and partners have been developing the project "Planning Sustainable Infrastructure in Peru". The project's objective is to strengthen the early integration of the environmental dimension of sustainability, as well as to develop a territorial approach in participatory infrastructure planning in Peru, with a focus on the Peruvian Amazon. This is achieved through viable proposals and recommendations for decision-makers, using Peru's National Infrastructure Plan for Competitiveness as a case study. Policy recommendations were discussed with stakeholders and developed as part of this project to support the integration of environmental sustainability, as well as a territorial approach in infrastructure planning in Peru, with a focus on the Amazon. These results provide possible lines of action for future research, as well as ideas on how the Government of Peru can improve the consideration of sustainability standards in infrastructure planning at both national and subnational levels.
