Abstract:
This paper presents current progress on a ground-breaking SEA which aims to identify how the citizens of Sierra Leone want to see the future of their country in twenty-five years’ time (by 2050).
The author is leading a team of activists and professional environmental scientists and planners as they explore the views of Sierra Leones using the power of social media. Priority is being given to the opinions of those who are under 30 years old, because they are the future.
A key element of the SEA is the use of Machine Learning to analyse all available data from MDA, NGOs and International Partners on current and proposed development initiatives. AI is being used to build a continuum of scenarios for the future, ranging from ‘business as normal’ ; to the achievement of all aspirations and goals for sustainable development.
The strengths and weaknesses of the approach will be discussed in the paper and presentation.
