The ongoing update of IFC's Sustainability Framework The ongoing update of IFC’s Sustainability Framework, including Performance Standard 5 on Land Acquisition and Involuntary Resettlement, presents a timely opportunity to refine existing management practices and guidance based on lessons learned over the past 14 years, stakeholder feedback and emerging challenges to ensure that land acquisition processes are both effective and equitable.
The PS5 update process can strengthen risk management by incorporating clearer and more robust approaches and harmonize standards across the World Bank Group and other international financial institutions, facilitating a more consistent and inclusive approach to resettlement management.
The session will seek to present the current status of the PS5 update and allow for constructive engagement in relation to complex issues such as project designs to minimize displacement, entitlement and compensation frameworks, enhance the effective participation of those affected, and sustainable livelihood restoration measures.
