Intentional and periodic Information disclosure is a veritable tool in building professional capacity and robust stakeholder confidence profoundly enhancing SPESSE project buy-in, appraisal
In an age challenged by misinformation and disinformation, transparent communication has become vital to effective project management, robust stakeholder confidence and impact assessment. This empirical paper examines how our intentional and consistent engagement in Information Disclosure Retreats (IDRs) enhance our project buy-in, appraisal and implementation at SPESSE Makurdi. Since 2019, FUAM-SPESSE Centre has held 26 retreats, 28 Step-downs, engaging 989 participants across academia, university administration and industrial stakeholders, providing a structured platform for sharing project progress, clarifying roles, and strengthening compliance with environmental and social safeguards. Using surveys, interviews, and project tracking data, this study assessed the retreats’ impact on project outcomes. Results revealed 84% enhancement in stakeholder understanding of project objectives, 61% increase in the quality of efficiency and effectiveness at work. Interdepartmental communication and collaboration improved by 49%, leading to better communication flow and accountability. These findings demonstrate that institutionalizing periodic IDRs significantly reduces misinformation risks and strengthens transparency, trust, and performance. Integrating information disclosure sessions into university governance systems is recommended as a veritable strategy for enhancing communication and ensuring project success.
