Abstract

In Latin America, biodiversity finance and compensation mechanisms have evolved rapidly through frameworks such as Colombia’s Compensation Manual and SBTN. Yet many initiatives still struggle to attract and sustain private sector engagement. The barrier is not only technical or financial—it is narrative.
Scientific and policy-oriented language often fails to connect with the emotional and strategic drivers that influence investment decisions. As a result, biodiversity initiatives face a communication gap that weakens trust, legitimacy, and capital mobilization.nThis paper argues that storytelling, when grounded in credible science and supported by transparent impact assessment, can bridge this divide between ecological integrity and economic ambition. Drawing on insights from emerging biodiversity credit systems and compensation schemes across the region, it explores how integrated communication strategies linking science, policy, and participatory narratives enhance investor confidence and stakeholder alignment. Reframing impact around co-benefits such as climate, water, and community outcomes can transform biodiversity from a compliance obligation into a shared value proposition.
Communication, therefore, should be understood as critical infrastructure for biodiversity investment. Effective storytelling translates complexity into meaning, risk into opportunity, and data into shared purpose. The call is to recognize that the gap between finance and nature is not merely technical but deeply narrative
