Summary Statement

Exploring the other side of misinformation requires an often uncomfortable amount of self-reflexivity to challenge beliefs, attitudes and practices. Are we open to decolonizing our own views?

Abstract

Exploring the other side of misinformation requires an often uncomfortable amount of self-reflexivity to challenge beliefs, attitudes and practices that have been repeated for a professional lifetime. As practitioners, are we willing to unlearn what we have come to accept as traditional SIA practice and reconsider our approaches when relating to people vs. collecting data? This presentation will aim to facilitate a decolonial discussion to the solution room concerning collectors' bias. The solution table will constructively challenge the process that shifts a relation between people into a data-extraction exercise and how different approaches can (mis)inform a study. the solution table will explore situations in which peoples' felt experiences go beyond the typical SIA data and how this is captured (or not) in our work. Do we challenge ourselves before constructing a narrative of our experiences?
