Abstract

The practice of cumulative effects assessment has been evolving in Canada, calling for more holism, collaboration, inclusivity and rigor.
Recent legal decisions have also clarified the role of cumulative effects assessment in upholding the rights of Indigenous Peoples.
Advances in the landscape of cumulative effects assessment are timely, and more are required, in the face of rapid environmental and social changes that are increasingly difficult to predict.
This context underscores the need for shared responsibility in cumulative effects assessment.
