Summary Statement

This session will outline the Balance Co-Lab’s online Indigenous-led Cumulative Impact Assessment training program.


Abstract

This poster session will outline the Balance Co-Lab’s Indigenous-led Cumulative Impact Assessment training program that focuses on the context and best practices of Indigenous-led impact assessment.
Upon completion of this course, learners will be able to:
1. Understand Indigenous Rights, Self-determination, Governance, and Ways of Knowing and Being, and what is required to uphold and protect them.
2. Understand how Cumulative Impact Assessment processes support the fulfillment of rights, reconciliation, and interests of Indigenous communities.
3. Apply Indigenous Knowledge together with Western Science in Impact Assessments.
4. Utilize methods of Indigenous community-based research to identify Indigenous laws, governance practices, values, and valued components for Impact Assessments.
5. Design an Indigenous-led Impact Assessment.

Matthew Murphy is the Project Director for the Balance Co-Lab and Associate Professor of Sustainability and Strategy at UVic’s Gustavson School of Business.
